Aunt
Mary's Yarn
This website is a source of low cost Red Heart yarn.
A colleague reported that you can purchase yarn for 10 cents per ounce.
I used to shop at an Aunt Marys Mill End store in Lancaster. The yarn

| Barbara Wampler
Barb is an accomplished craftsperson and the winner of prizes for her unique designs. Her website offers preemie and newborn clothing patterns--for those who sew, knit and crochet. She created all of those patterns for charitable purposes and has generously permitted Care Wear Volunteers to reprint several of them in its quarterly newsletters.
One of the greatest joys in Barbara's life has been to freely share her patterns and provide burial layettes and clothing to her local NICU at Sarasota Memorial Hospital. Although fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue now limit what Barbara is able to do, those maladies do not limit her creativity and enthusiasm. She is helping to meet the needs of NICUs across the country by providing excellent patterns for others to use. Over 10,000 people have downloaded her time-tested patterns. Barbara asks that you consider using her patterns to make something for her area NICU (Sarasota Memorial Hospital), too.
Barbara knows that her charity work has been her salvation throughout these trying times and that her website helps her to keep in touch with all of her supportive charity friends throughout the world! It also keeps her motivated to continue to do something worthwhile--creating new designs! |

| Craft Yarn Council "Knitting, crocheting, and crafting with yarns
are skills that are enjoyed for a lifetime, whether creating apparel or
home fashions for yourself, as gifts, for profit, or just for fun and relaxation.
All of the Craft Yarn Council of America's programs are designed to convey
this message. In addition to sponsoring an educational program CYCA acts
as a clearing house for the craft yarn industry, when possible answering
consumer inquiries and providing links to consumer knitting and crocheting
guilds. Plus, it sponsors community-based programs such as Warm Up America
and Caps for Kids..."
Formed in 1981, CYCA attempts to raise awareness of yarns. Member companies
supply much of the yarn, tools, and accessories used in the US.

Helen Littrell's Chemo Hat Patterns
Helen has three different patterns for cancer hats on this site. To mail
a hardcopy, she charges a small fee to cover copying and postage, which
as we all know can get expensive. But the main thrust is to get the patterns
out to individuals and groups who will make and donate hats. After all
these years of making and donating here in this area that has at least
25,000 residents, she is still the only person interested in the project.
You know the old story from those who complain about being bored and having
nothing to do--just ask them to get involved in a charity project and
all of a sudden they're way too busy. So on the advice of Gail Brown,
Helen decided to put up a website and see if it would do some good.
Helen’s sewing patterns are clear and easy to follow. I hope that readers
will join her in helping. |

videos, knitting needles and gadgets, and knitting software. Patternworks
is known for hard-to-find supplies. They have an inventory of 12,000 items

infants has grown.

The Beehive
The little love project provides tiny clothing and memorial quilts for babies who are miscarried or stillborn at Pembury and Maidstone Hospitals in Kent, England. They have now expanded the project to also provide tiny knitted items for babies in the Special Care Baby Unit.
The smallest sizes of commercially available clothes are for babies born over 3lbs. All miscarried babies (born before 24 weeks) and some stillborn babies (born after 24 weeks) are too small for commercial clothes so this project aims to fulfill the need for tiny clothing and to hopefully bring a small amount of dignity and comfort to a heartbreaking situation.
The memorial quilts are made by the Eden Quilters, a friendly group of quilters who meet in Edenbridge (UK) on the last Monday afternoon of each month. They are currently also working on a full size quilt and wall hanging for one of the rooms which is to be refurbished at Pembury hospital. If you would like more information about the Eden Quilters please email her ( lornasimm@yahoo.co.uk). |

Wisdom Works
"Wisdom Works is the web site of Dr. Mary Stuart, a dear
friend of mine who graduated from Hood College three years after I did.
She also returned to Hood a few years after graduation. Molly joined the
administration and I returned to join the faculty. When Hood opted to phase
out "house mothers," Molly lived in Smith Hall and Dick & I lived in
Memorial Hall--as transition residence advisors. We have many fond memories
of those years.
Molly left Hood to complete a Ph.D. program, served as Dean of Faculty at
LaRoche College (Pittsburgh, PA area), and President of Mount St. Vincent
College (New York). I stayed at Hood, but moved from the faculty to an administrative
position when my academic department was eliminated. During these years
we continued to exchange holiday greeting cards/letters, but did not see
each other more than four or five times.
Last year Molly decided to pursue other callings. She moved to New Mexico,
began writing, accepted speaking engagements, and among other things worked
with a friend to develop a website. Because Molly is a caring person who
looks for the goodness in everyone and in every event, I thought that some
of the visitors to the Care Wear website might enjoy Molly's writings."
